Younger Children’s Easter Activity Pages

Older Children’s Easter Activity Pages

Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

  • We anticipate continuing to worship outdoors through the summer, as the weather allows. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, for now, to allow the air to be a little warmer. We will likely move the service earlier as we get into the heat of summer.
    • Social distancing and mask use will need to follow state regulations. Currently, masks are required outdoors, when you cannot keep a 6-foot separation between yourself and others. However, this allows for a great deal more relaxation than we have been able to experience indoors. We also will be able to resume congregational singing. We are taking steps to be able to live stream worship from the pavilion and expect that to be ready by Easter Sunday. We also will have the radio broadcaster set up for people to be able to listen in their cars again.
    • Finally, if the weather is not cooperating, we will be able to move back inside again, on short notice if necessary, but continuing to observe state and CDC regulations. More details can be found at https://pleasantvalleyalive.org/wp/outdoor-worship-plan-starting-easter-2021/
  • The BackPack Pals program is in need of Pudding Cups and Ramen noodles. If you would like to make a donation, please leave items in the BackPack Pals bin located in the narthex.
  • Despite the current pandemic, Karis is open and very busy. As a result, they are in great need of good used furniture and household items. Now is a good time to bring these items to Karis to consign.
    • To make an appointment to bring in items, contact Karis during store hours at (540) 248-4511. The store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Consignment hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointment. Karis also provides pick-up services for a minimal fee.
    • Volunteers and customers follow safety protocols by wearing masks and practicing safe distancing. Click here for more information.
  • Focus Teams are making preparations for resuming Sunday School classes on April 18. A report on readiness will be brought to the Church Board on April 11.
  • The Church of the Brethren Annual Conference for this year will take place online. The Church Board has selected Pastors Daniel and Rebecca to serve as delegates.
  • The 2021 Church Directories have been published and are available for you to pick up in the Narthex.

Please remember in your prayers the many in and around our congregation who have been fighting illness.

Easter Medley

by Jeremiah Padilla | Streamed with permission. CSPL121366

In the Jewish tradition, the new day begins at sunset. This means that Easter very definitely began in darkness.

But we celebrate the rising of a new day, because Jesus’ resurrection changed everything. It was a change that was bewildering in its rapidity. It was a change that put what we experienced a year ago into reverse. Overnight in the March of 2020, churches stopped meeting in person, and hugs and handshakes stopped being exchanged. Imagine if that lack of contact were normal, if that was all we had known all our lives, and that overnight the virus disappeared. Then, just as suddenly we started meeting for worship every day, celebrating, hugging, and singing songs of praise.

This is Easter type change! This is what it is to go in 24 hours from knowing that Jesus died to knowing that he has risen and lives again! This is the knowledge that death has not won, and even though we may die, in Jesus, we still will live!v

Christ the Lord is Risen Today

by David Tate, Jeremiah Padilla, Sarah Padilla | Streamed with permission. CSPL121366

Spirit of God
As we gather this Easter morning
You have shown us the power of your love
and the strength of your grace.
You roll back the night like a stone from the tomb
And shake the grave with your resurrection.
Fill us with your presence this morning.
Wash us clean and make us new;
ready to share the good news,
that in you life has the victory
and death has lost its sting.
Born in you, we rise to life:
To celebrate and sing, to serve and pray, to share your grace, to know your love.
Rise among us this morning, Amen.

Matthew 28:1-10-9 NRSV

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.” This is my message for you.’ So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.’

Glorious Day

Verse 1
One day when heaven was filled with His praises
One day when sin was as black as could be
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin
Dwelt among men my example is He
The Word became flesh
And the light shined among us
His glory revealed

Verse 2
One day they led Him up Calv’ry’s mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish despised and rejected
Bearing our sins my Redeemer is He
The hand that healed nations
Stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me

Chorus
Living He loved me dying He saved me
Buried He carried my sins far away
Rising He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
O glorious day (glorious day)

Verse 3
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose over death He had conquered
Now is ascended my Lord evermore
Death could not hold Him
The grave could not keep Him
From rising again

Chorus
Living He loved me dying He saved me
Buried He carried my sins far away
Rising He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
O glorious day (glorious day)

Bridge
One day the trumpet will sound for His coming
One day the skies with His glories will shine
Wonderful day my beloved one bringing
My Savior Jesus is mine

Chorus
Living He loved me dying He saved me
Buried He carried my sins far away
Rising He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
O glorious day (glorious day)

We gather as a church, because Jesus has invited us. We gather with celebration. We gather with pain. But beyond all of this, we gather in the faith and hope of the one who gave his life for us, and who returned so that we will always know, that our Lord is the way, the truth, and the life. You are invited to join us in celebration today, as we share together the bread and the cup that Jesus prepared for the nourishment of each one who follows in his way.

Matthew 26:26-29 NRSV
While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will never again drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.’

Lord Jesus, in that upper room with the disciples, you took the ordinary bread, and made it food for our souls. You gave yourself, in order to save us. You do the same each time we gather in your name, transforming our hearts and desires into a full longing for your ways and your peace. As we eat this bread and drink this cup, we pray that they would be vessels of your transformation, bringing us to life in the communion of your death and resurrection.
According to your love, Amen.

Paul gave us instructions on receiving the Bread and Cup in 1 Corinthians. You are invited to participate in the communion of Christ, as guided by Paul below.

1 Corinthians 11:23-24
For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’

. . . . .

This bread which we break is the communion of the body of Christ.

. . . . .

Take and eat.

1 Corinthians 11:25-26
In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

. . . . .

The cup which we bless is the new covenant in Christ’s blood poured out for many.

. . . . .

Take and drink.

Lord, as you have given, may we receive,
for the renewal of our souls,
the renewal of your love,
the coming of your new way in the earth.

May we never take it for granted,
but receive it new each day,
as fresh nourishment for our spirits,
as life that none can take from us,
as your salvation poured out for us.

In Jesus, our Lord, we pray. Amen.

Proclaim the Tidings Near and Far

Proclaim the tidings near and far,
Go tell the blessèd story;
The grave has given up its dead—
The Lord of life and glory.

Sing glory, glory,
Glory hallelujah,
Sing glory, glory,
Glory hallelujah.

The Lord is risen, Oh, rejoice
Ye hearts grown sad and weary;
Let songs of gladness swell each voice
That bears that wondrous story.

Sing glory, glory,
Glory hallelujah,
Sing glory, glory,
Glory hallelujah.

Death has no sting for those who love
This risen Lord to follow;
Across their hearts the gloomy grave
Throws not its gloomy shadow.

Sing glory, glory,
Glory hallelujah,
Sing glory, glory,
Glory hallelujah.

Proclaim the Tidings Near and Far

by David Tate, Jeremiah Padilla, Sarah Padilla | Streamed with permission. CSPL121366

As Christ burst forth from the tomb,
may new life burst forth from us
and show itself in acts of love and healing to a hurting world.
And may the same Christ,
who lives forever and is the source of our new life,
keep your hearts rejoicing
and grant you peace this day and always. Amen.
