Younger Children’s Activity Pages

Older Children’s Activity Pages

Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

  • We anticipate continuing to worship outdoors through the summer, as the weather allows. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, for now, to allow the air to be a little warmer. We will likely move the service earlier as we get into the heat of summer.
    • Social distancing and mask use will need to follow state regulations. Currently, masks are required outdoors, when you cannot keep a 6-foot separation between yourself and others. However, this allows for a great deal more relaxation than we have been able to experience indoors. We also will be able to resume congregational singing. We are taking steps to be able to live stream worship from the pavilion and expect that to be ready by Easter Sunday. We also will have the radio broadcaster set up for people to be able to listen in their cars again.
    • Finally, if the weather is not cooperating, we will be able to move back inside again, on short notice if necessary, but continuing to observe state and CDC regulations. More details can be found at https://pleasantvalleyalive.org/wp/outdoor-worship-plan-starting-easter-2021/
  • The youth will be cooking and selling Chicken BBQ on May 15, 2021. Look forward to some finger lickin’ good food! This is the first youth fundraiser we have had in over a year, and we could use your help! We will need help with cooking and wrapping the chicken at the Mt. Sidney Ruritan pit. We would love for some adults from the congregation to help out alongside our youth. We also need to borrow some coolers to transport chicken after it is cooked. If you can help out in any way, please contact Pastor Rebecca.
  • Focus Teams are making preparations for resuming Sunday School classes on April 18. A report on readiness will be brought to the Church Board on April 11.
  • The 2021 Church Directories have been published and are available for you to pick up.
  • The Shenandoah District Disaster Auction Coordinating Committee has decided to hold in-person auctions at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds (4808 S ValleyPike,Harrisonburg) on May 21-22 in the Barn Complex. The recent change in outdoor gathering restrictions has now made it possible for the Friday evening livestock and Saturday morning auctions to take place, although with social distancing and mask-wearing required. Unfortunately, the oyster and ham dinner and the Saturday morning breakfast and lunch offerings will not be available. However, the committee is evaluating ideas for making meals available outdoors using a drive-by method for pick up.

Please remember in your prayers the many in and around our congregation who have been fighting illness.

When Jesus rose from the dead, the disciples initially had trouble believing what had happened. But Jesus gave a message to the women who had seen him. The disciples were to gather together, and Jesus would meet them. They were not to run and scatter and flee to return to their old lives, but they were to continue together in the love that Jesus had taught them.

In the same way, we continue to gather, because Jesus instructs us to. Through our gathering, we receive Jesus’ blessing and are prepared to carry his blessing into the word.

Come, children of God.
Christ is calling, and we are to receive a new blessing.
Come, be baptized in the waters of repentance.
Come, be healed, be renewed.
We are called!

Jesus’ love calls us forward.

We gather to seek the good news of Christ,
and follow after Jesus’ love.
We are called!

Jesus’ love calls us forward.

Set down your burdens, let go of the old ways.
Take rest at the feet of the one who is divine love.
Come to know justice. Learn peace.
We are called!

Jesus’ love calls us forwards

Come, children of God.
Receive Christ’s calling. Receive Christ’s peace.
The Spirit of God is in you today.
We are called!

Jesus’ love calls us forward.

Amen!

Thine is the Glory

Thine is the glory risen conquering Son
Endless is the victory Thou o’er death hast won
Angels in bright raiment Rolled the stone away
Kept the folded grave clothes Where Thy Body lay
Thine is the glory risen conquering Son
Endless is the victory Thou o’er death hast won

Lo Jesus meets us Risen from the tomb
Lovingly He greets us Scatters fear and gloom
Let the church with gladness Hymns of triumph sing
For the Lord now liveth Death hath lost its sting
Thine is the glory risen conquering Son
Endless is the victory Thou o’er death hast won

No more we doubt thee, Glorious Prince of life!
Life is naught without thee; aid us in our strife.
Make us more than conquerors, through thy deathless love.
Bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above.
Thine is the glory risen conquering Son
Endless is the victory
Thou o’er death hast won

Thine is the Glory

by David Tate, Jeremiah Padilla | Streamed with permission. CSPL121366

Holy God,
We learned to call you Father
because of your Son
on whom your Spirit rested
In Whom your Spirit dwells.
Jesus is one with you
And prayed that we would be also.
Receive us as children baptized in your love today
Open us to your will and love;
Make us your own.
Enliven our hearts with your word,
and our living with your way.
By this, may all the world know you,
and their place with you as well. Amen.

Matthew 16:13-19 NRSV

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us

Verse 1
How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Verse 2
Behold the Man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

Verse 3
I will not boast in anything
No gifts no pow’r no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Jesus taught the disciples that God loved them, just as he loved him. He also taught them, that they were being given a new identity in God’s kingdom. They were not just fishermen and tax collectors, Pharisees and Zealots, even men and women. They were, above all else, because of God’s love, children of the divine father.

So, we declare the truth of God’s love proclaiming, “We are the children of God!”

We are children of God!

Jesus told his disciples that he was the good shepherd and that his sheep would know his voice and would follow him.

We are children of God!

Jesus continued, telling the disciples that he would lay down his life for the sheep, the ones that he knows in love, just as the Father knows him. He would lay down his life, but in the Father’s love would also take it up again.

We are children of God!

Jesus also told the disciples that those who loved him, would follow his teachings and that he and the Father would make their home with them. Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live.”

We are children of God!

Jesus said, “You are my friends if you do what I teach you…. I have called you friends because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me but I chose you.

We are children of God!

And the Spirit, promised by Jesus, spoke through Paul and said:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing… just as he chose us in Christ… to be holy and blameless before him in love. He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will.

We are children of God!

May the love that God gives us find good ground. May it sprout and grow and produce good fruit, to provide real nourishment to a world malnourished by false loves, crippled by greed, and broken by hate. May the love of Christ be what strengthens his church and sends it on his mission.

You, O God, love us from the moment of our conception,
You know us and you love us in the womb,
You love us and you call us from before the moment of our first breath,
and you love us when we first see the light of day.
As a mother/father loves her/his child before she/he ever sees it,
and then embraces it gently from the moment of its birth,
so you love us—and we thank you.
Help us dear God to love one another in this way…
Lord hear our prayer.

You love us, O God from the time of our naming
You love us in our growing and hold us as we take our first steps.
You love us and walk beside us
as we explore the world with eager hands and eyes
As a mother/father loves her/his child as she/he sees it grow and develop
so you love us—and we thank you.
Help us dear God to love one another in this way…
Lord hear our prayer…

You love us, O God, as we mature and seek our way,
You love as we become aware of the world around us,
You love us as we smile and play,
you even love us when we say no and when we begin to stray.
As a mother/father loves her/his child as she/he sees it become proud and tall,
so you love us even when we sin and fall…
Help us dear God to love one another in this way…
Lord hear our prayer…

We thank you God for loving us when we are unloving
for caring for us when we are uncaring,
and for calling to us when we go far away…
Help us dear God to love one another in this way…
Lord hear our prayer…

Lord hear our prayers of love this day for those around us,
for those we have held before you in our time of sharing,
and for those we have thought of in our moments of caring:

Lord hear our prayer…

We ask all these things in the name of Christ Jesus,
who is our Lord and our brother.  Amen

Chain Breaker

Verse 1 If you’ve been walking the same old road For miles and miles If you’ve been hearing the same old voice Tell the same old lies If you’re trying to fill the same old holes inside There’s a better life There’s a better life

Chorus  If you’ve got pain He’s a pain taker If you feel lost He’s a way maker If you need freedom or saving He’s a prison shaking Savior If you got chains He’s a chain breaker

Verse 2 We’ve all searched for the light of day In the dead of night We’ve all found ourselves worn out From the same old fight We’ve all run to things we know just ain’t right When there’s a better life There’s a better life

Chorus  If you’ve got pain He’s a pain taker If you feel lost He’s a way maker If you need freedom or saving He’s a prison shaking Savior If you got chains He’s a chain breaker

Bridge If you believe it If you receive it If you can feel it Somebody testify

Chorus If you’ve got pain He’s a pain taker If you feel lost He’s a way maker If you need freedom or saving He’s a prison shaking Savior If you got chains He’s a chain breaker

Oh if you need freedom or saving He’s a prison shaking Savior If you got chains well He’s a chain breaker

May the peace of God be in your heart,
The grace of God be in your words,
The love of God be in your hands
The joy of God be in your soul,
and in the song that your life sings.
