Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

Notes and Reminder

We gather in this new year, in the faithfulness of God.

God is with us!

He has declared, that his love is for all people! He comes in Jesus so that all can know healing grace and be new life.

God sends also sends the Holy Spirit, so that we might be prepared in the power of his love.

Because this is love, that God sent his Son, that world might know live through him.

I am the clay

This is what I pray

God, you are our beginning.
Even before a word in on our tongue,
You know it completely.
So we praise you today
And ask that your Spirit would fill our hearts.
Free us from useless worry.
Open us to loving compassion.
Guide us in grace that nurtures life and joy,
So our lives will honor and glorify you.
Amen.

Exodus 13:20-22

20 They set out from Succoth, and camped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness. 21 The Lord went in front of them in a pillar of cloud by day, to lead them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light, so that they might travel by day and by night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

I Wonder As I Wander

Chorus

I wonder as I wander out under the sky,
How Jesus my Savior did come for to die.
For poor on’ry people like you and like I
I wonder as I wander out under the sky.

Verse 1

When Mary birthed Jesus ’twas in a cow’s stall,
With wise men and farmers and shepherds and all.
But high from God’s heaven a star’s light did fall,
And the promise of ages it then did recall.

Verse 2

If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing,
A star in the sky, or a bird on the wing,
Or all of God’s angels in heav’n for to sing,
He surely could have it, ’cause he was the King.

Chorus

I wonder as I wander out under the sky,
How Jesus my Savior did come for to die.
For poor on’ry people like you and like I
I wonder as I wander out under the sky.

Children’s Time

We praise you, O God, that in the beginning
You turned darkness into light,
You made Earth and its creatures,
You provided all things for your good purposes.

Yet we find much to fear in this world,
and we often allow ourselves to become
children more of fear than of Your grace.
In our fear we neglect the people around us,
and neglect our own souls as well.
We become deaf to Your voice and insensitive to Your presence.
We strive for the honors of this world,
and fail to understand why they neither fulfill or relieve.
So claim our hearts again.
Protect the world around us against our insecurity,
and lead us back to the wholeness of Your grace.

It is for this that You sent Jesus
And it is for this that He invited and admonished, taught and healed,
lifting up the poor and restoring the broken.
Through His eyes and on the cross we see our need.
In the empty tomb and His resurrection we see our redemption.

So send Your Spirit to move among us.
Help us to welcome Your challenge,
to receive and celebrate your transformation.
Use us in Your establishment of a new creation,
where the meek are lifted up
and where the poor are without need.
Allow us to be a part of Your healing of all creation
seeking reconciliation with others,
confessing our own weakness and hard-heartedness,
And allowing You to unite Your people
together in Your all encompassing love.

We lift up to You now those whose need we know.

We celebrate those who have received new life, new healing, new hope.

We pray Your guidance for each one us as we seek to follow you,
and especially for those times when we chase after other things.
Redirect the hearts of your children new every day.

Lead us and guide us, O God, for sake of the life of the world;
through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

In the book of Leviticus we hear many of the instructions that were given to the Israelites as they were entering the promised land. These instructions were wideranging in their topics, but they had one central them: “How to live well with God.”

One of the instructions that is given in Leviticus 23 has to do with what we often call, “the First Fruits offering.” In the agrarian society of Israel, the instruction was given to bring the first sheaf of a harvest to the altar, as a prayer for blessing. It was an act that named that the harvest was a gift from God, even before it was collected. It declared, “All that we have, is from God.”

This instruction on seeking blessing, is immediately followed by instructions to compassion, providing for the feeding of the poor, caring for those in times of need. These two go hand in hand. We cannot hope to ask God’s blessing without also caring for those around us.

As we enter this new year, let us do so in the same spirit, declaring that all that we have is a gift, a trust from God, asking God’s blessing for the year to come, and caring for those around us.

Lord, as you give,
may we receive,
for the renewal of our souls,
the renewal of your love,
the coming of your healing in the earth.
May we never take it for granted,
but receive your blessings new each day,
as fresh nourishment for our souls.
Give us strength, courage, and faith,
to love and serve,
as we have been blessed by you. Amen

Love Came Down at Christmas

Verse 1

Love came down at Christmas
Love, a lovely love divine
Love was born at Christmas
Stars and angels gave the sign

Sing Noel!
Sing Noel!
Sing Noel!

Verse 2

Love will be our token
Love be yours, and love be mine
Love from God to all of us
Love for plea and gift a sign

Chorus

Sing Noel!
Sing Noel!
Sing Noel!

May the peace of Christ go with you, wherever God’s call sends you.
May the Spirit guide you through the wilderness and protect you through the storm.
May God bring you home rejoicing, at the wonders that are shown you.
May God bring you back again, to celebrate inside these doors. Amen.

-Common Prayer, adapted.
