Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

Notes and Reminder

As a part of this Sunday’s worship, we are having a minimal Congregational Business Meeting, in accordance with our church by-laws. There will be no business presented that will require a congregational vote. We will hear reports and celebrations for the work God continued to do among us last year, and pray for the ministries of the coming year.

The BackPack Pals program is in need of Pudding Cups and Ramen noodles. If you would like to make a donation, please leave items in the BackPack Pals bin located in the narthex.

Pastor Daniel and Pastor Rebecca will be on vacation February 15th-21st. We are looking forward to welcoming Grant Gonino to join us on Sunday, February 21st!

The 2021 Church directory is being finalized. If you have updates for the directory, please submit them to the church office by February 15. Updates can be emailed to office@pleasantvalleyalive.

Please remember in your prayers the many in and around our congregation who have been fighting illness.

My Story

Verse 1

If I told you my story
You would hear hope, that wouldn’t let go
And if I told you my story
You would hear love that never gave up
And if I told you my story
You would hear life, but it wasn’t mine

Chorus

If I should speak, then let it be of the grace
That is greater than all my sin
Of when justice was served, and where mercy wins!
Of the kindness of Jesus, that draws me in
Oh to tell you my story, is to tell of Him

Verse 2

If I told you my story, you would hear victory
Over the enemy
And if I told you my story, you would hear freedom
That was won for me
And if I told you my story, you would hear life
Overcome the grave

Chorus

If I should speak, then let it be of the grace
That is greater than all my sin
Of when justice was served, and where mercy wins!
Of the kindness of Jesus, that draws me in
Oh to tell you my story, is to tell of Him

Verse 3

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my savior, all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my savior, all the day long

The heavens are telling the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of God’s hands.

Day after day, speech is poured forth; night after night, knowledge is revealed.

In the heavens, God has pitched a tent for the sun,

Like a bridegroom coming out from a wedding canopy, like a champion rejoicing to run a race.

The sun rises at one end of the heavens and makes its way to the other; nothing is withheld from its warmth.

The law of the Lord is perfect and revives our soul.

The decrees of the Lord are worthy of our truth and make us wise.

The instructions of the Lord are right and give joy to our hearts.

Invocation

God who gives us Word and Life, You have come to us in Jesus. You have given breath to love in ways that are our hope and salvation. We commit to you today, that we want to know you better. We want to experience your Spirit in ways that heals and transforms our souls. We ask your blessing to lead and direct us. Open our hearts, so that your word can be planted deep within. Through this time, make us fruitful, Growing in love and relationship with you. Amen.

In 2020, the Church Board established three large goals for our ministry as a congregation. These goals were specifically intended to be foci for shaping our whole life together as a congregation. They were discerned during the January Board Retreat, and presented at the February Congregational Meeting.

Of course, in January and February, none of us anticipated what the rest of the coming year would look like. Out of necessity, much of what was discerned a year ago was delayed. But none of it was discarded. We still believe that these goals are what God is guiding us towards as a congregation, and so we ask you to be in prayer over them for this coming year.

The first goal is to establish “Life Groups” for the members of our congregation. These groups are intended to be a center of growth and support for our membership, as we seek to faithfully follow Jesus. These groups will include study opportunities, time for sharing and prayer, and opportunities to simply enjoy being together.

The second goal is to plan a regular service ministry in our community, helping with physical needs (minor home repairs, landscaping work, etc.), especially for the elderly in our community. Along with this, we want to involve the community by celebrating the launch of this ministry with a workday and launch party.

The third goal is to support the developing ministry of Lydia’s House. The vision of Lydia’s house is to provide support to those in recovery from addiction and to build relationships with Jesus. Lydia’s house is working with Addiction Recovery Care (ARC) based out of Loiusa, Kentucky, hoping to see a facility established in Augusta County. We are currently meeting with Lydia’s House and others for prayer as planning progresses. These prayer meetings were being held in our building, but now are taking place online.

Let us all be in prayer for what God can do in these ministries in the coming year. May they be a blessing to our neighbors, and help us to grow in Jesus’ way.

Revelations 21:1-6 NRSV

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

‘See, the home of God is among mortals.
He will dwell with them;
they will be his peoples,
and God himself will be with them;
he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more;
mourning and crying and pain will be no more,
for the first things have passed away.’

And the one who was seated on the throne said, ‘See, I am making all things new.’ Also he said, ‘Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.’ Then he said to me, ‘It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life.

Treasurer’s Report 2021

Cemetery Trustee’s Report 2021

Gracious God,

You are the one who gives us life and breath

who warms our hearts and shows us beauty and purpose

You are the one who teaches us to long for what is good.

We ask you to be present in all we have discussed today.

May all of our efforts share your love with your children.

May people grow to know you more:

Your mercy,

Your faithfulness,

Your joy and peace.

As Jesus led the disciples in ministering to those around them,

may we know the same leading.

Let us not shy away from the hurting

But know that your touch is in our hands

to make the wounded whole.

Make us whole, O God!

Awaken your love and hope within us!

Equip us to live as citizens of heaven before every other kingdom!

Bless us to share your goodness, your healing, your grace and love with all we meet.

In your Spirit we pray, Amen.

Healer of Our Every Ill

Healer of our every ill,
light of each tomorrow,
give us peace beyond our fear,
and hope beyond our sorrow!

Give us strength to love each other,
every sister, every brother;
Spirit of all kindness, be our guide.

Healer of our every ill,
light of each tomorrow,
give us peace beyond our fear,
and hope beyond our sorrow!

You who know each thought and feeling,
teach us all your way of healing;
Spirit of compassion, fill each heart.

Healer of our every ill,
light of each tomorrow,
give us peace beyond our fear,
and hope beyond our sorrow!

As God renews the earth with rain, snow, and sun
May God’s Spirit also renew your spirit
May Jesus touch be upon you to heal you
and to share healing through your touch to others
May you see, know, and share
God’s peace.
Amen.
