Younger Children’s Activity Pages

Older Children’s Activity Pages

Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

  • Indoor seating is available in the sanctuary with the live stream of the service on the screen.

  • An instructional video has been prepared to guide individuals in the installation of our church smartphone app. This app is a useful tool for daily devotions, accessing worship materials (including recordings from our services), receiving updates, and even giving offerings. You can see the video at https://pleasantvalleyalive.org/wp/app-install.

  • We are planning a Brethren Disaster Ministries trip to Dayton, Ohio for August 22 -28. If you ar interested in participating, or would like more information, please contact Eddie Meyerhoeffer.

  • Wind and Word” Bible Study takes place at 7PM on Tuesday evenings in the Pavilion. This is a casual study of the book of Acts, and all are encouraged to come as they are available.

Luke 3:15-17, 21-22
As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, ‘I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing-fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.’
Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; with you, I am well pleased.’

We come together this morning, confessing our need for a savior. Our world needs healing and we need healing. We choose division and strife over God’s promise of harmony and love. We neglect our neighbor and fear for ourselves. We need to be washed clean.

And we have this good news. Jesus has entered the water, and poured out the Holy Spirit for us. Jesus invites us to come follow him, and find in him the way to new life.

Let’s celebrate our lord!

Morning Has Broken

Verse 1

Morning has broken like the first morning;
blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
praise for them, springing fresh from the word.

Verse 2

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven,
like the first dew-fall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

Verse 3

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning,
born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning,
God’s recreation of the new day.

God of creation and renewal
unveil your Kingdom in our midst.
Show us who we truly are in you:
expose the illusions that distort our vision,
deliver us from temptations that contort our living,
open our eyes in this time of worship-
that your Spirit may be the secret of our joy
and our joy a sign of your wonder. Amen.

Luke 4:1-13 NRSV

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished. The devil said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become a loaf of bread.’ Jesus answered him, ‘It is written, “One does not live by bread alone.”’
Then the devil led him up and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And the devil said to him, ‘To you I will give their glory and all this authority; for it has been given over to me, and I give it to anyone I please. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.’ Jesus answered him, ‘It is written,
“Worship the Lord your God,
   and serve only him.” ’
Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, saying to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written,
“He will command his angels concerning you,
   to protect you”,
and
“On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.” ’
Jesus answered him, ‘It is said, “Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” ’ When the devil had finished every test, he departed from him until an opportune time.

God of grace and redemption
We know your movement among us:
whenever there is healing.
whenever the unlovable are embraced,
whenever cooling waters tend our soul.
We know the power of your providence
as rain quenches the parched earth,
as grain is multiplied in the fields
and as we receive the blessings of new birth.
You show your love to us through the sacrifices of the cross,
and the welcome of every day.
So multiply that love among us now.
Make your love to shine among us.
Cultivate compassion that bears each others burdens.
Sow sharing wherever there is need.
Bring healing to those who are ill,
and comfort to those who are mourning.
Remind us that your wisdom, strength, and mercy
are sufficient for all these things.
Help us to love and rely upon you.
In Jesus we pray.  Amen.

Healer Of Our Every Ill

Healer of our every ill,
Light of each tomorrow,
give us peace beyond our fear
and hope beyond our sorrow.

You who know our fears and sadness,
grace us with your peace and gladness.
Spirit of all comfort, fill our hearts.

Healer of our every ill,
Light of each tomorrow,
give us peace beyond our fear
and hope beyond our sorrow.

In the pain and joy beholding
how your grace is still unfolding,
give us all your vision, God of love.

Healer of our every ill,
Light of each tomorrow,
give us peace beyond our fear
and hope beyond our sorrow.

Give us strength to love each other,
every sister, every brother.
Spirit of all kindness, be our guide.

Healer of our every ill,
Light of each tomorrow,
give us peace beyond our fear
and hope beyond our sorrow.

You who know each thought and feeling,
teach us all your way of healing.
Spirit of compassion, fill each heart.

Healer of our Every Ill

Who will God send for us? Who will be our salvation?

Christ is our way.

Who can lead us? Who can straighten our crooked ways?

Christ is our way.

Who can make us ready for God’s coming?
Who can stand before the throne and present us as his own?

Christ is our way.

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love,
as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us,
a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Christ is our way.

Go in Christ’s way.
Amen.
