Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

Notes and Reminders

Advent is coming quickly, and we want to invite you to celebrate with us! His Eyes Are On The Sparrow

Reading from Isaiah 41 and Jeremiah 17

God calls and speaks to us!
When the poor and needy seek water,
and there is none,
and their tongue is parched with thirst,
I the Lord will answer them,
I the God of Israel will not forsake them.

God will open rivers on the bare heights,
and fountains in the midst of the valleys;
God will make the wilderness a pool of water,
and the dry land springs of water.

God will put in the wilderness the cedar,
the acacia, the myrtle, and the olive;
He will set in the desert the cypress,
the plane and the pine together,
so that all may see and know,
all may consider and understand,
that the hand of the Lord has done this,
the Holy One of Israel has created it.

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.

They shall be like a tree planted by water,
sending out its roots by the stream.
It shall not fear when heat comes,
and its leaves shall stay green;

in the year of drought it is not anxious,
and it does not cease to bear fruit.

The Train Song

Come on people get on board for the train is leaving to meet with our Lord.
Don’t stand there waitin’, now’s the time, for the train is a leavin’ don’t get left behind.

Chorus:
Leave all your burdens; cut loose your chains.
You ain’t gonna need them on this train.
We’re bound for freedom; ain’t turning back.
Oh come on, our Savior’s waiting down that track.

Brother, sister, sinner, saint:
It don’t matter what you’ve done
or where you’ve been before today.
We’ve tasted mercy been washed in grace.
Let’s join together in a song of praise.

Chorus:
Leave all your burdens; cut loose your chains.
You ain’t gonna need them on this train.
We’re bound for freedom; ain’t turning back.
Oh come on, our Savior’s waiting down that track.

Chorus:
Leave all your burdens; cut loose your chains.
You ain’t gonna need them on this train.
We’re bound for freedom; ain’t turning back.
Oh come on, our Savior’s waiting down that track.

Come on people get on board
for the train is leaving
to meet with our Lord.

Lord, you wait for us, and rush to meet us.
You seek us out in the depths of the wilderness
and in the center of the city.
You go right into Jerusalem,
among Pharisees, Sadducees, Soldiers, and Kings.
You humbly ride a donkey for our sake.
But you do not just take any path.
You create a way for us to follow also.
You lead us in mercy, holiness, and love
so we may come closer to you.
Reach out to touch our hearts today.
Awaken us to your closeness.
And guide us in the celebration of this morning.
May our worship give glory to you today. Amen.

Joshua 4:1-7
When the entire nation had finished crossing over the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua: ‘Select twelve men from the people, one from each tribe, and command them, “Take twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet stood, carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where you camp tonight.” ’ Then Joshua summoned the twelve men from the Israelites, whom he had appointed, one from each tribe. Joshua said to them, ‘Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, one for each of the tribes of the Israelites, so that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, “What do those stones mean to you?” then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off in front of the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the Israelites a memorial for ever.’

Chain Breaker

If you’ve been walking the same old road for miles and miles;
If you’ve been hearing the same old voice tell the same old lies;
If you’re trying to fill the same old holes inside, there’s a better life.
There’s a better life.

Chorus:
If you’ve got pain, he’s a pain taker.
If you feel lost, he’s a way maker.
If you need freedom or saving,
he’s a prison shaking Savior.
If you got chains, he’s a chain breaker.

We’ve all searched for the light of day
in the dead of night.
We’ve all found ourselves worn out
from the same old fight.
We’ve all run to things we know just ain’t right.  When there’s a better life,
There’s a better life.

Chorus:
If you’ve got pain, he’s a pain taker.
If you feel lost, he’s a way maker.
If you need freedom or saving,
he’s a prison shaking Savior.
If you got chains, he’s a chain breaker.

If you believe it,
If you receive it,
If you can feel it,
Somebody testify!
(Repeat)

Chorus:
If you’ve got pain, he’s a pain taker.
If you feel lost, he’s a way maker.
If you need freedom or saving,
he’s a prison shaking Savior.
If you got chains, he’s a chain breaker.

Oh if you need freedom or saving,
He’s a prison shaking Savior.
If you got chains, well he’s a chain breaker.

Jesus said, the Kingdom of God is at hand:
Whenever someone is kind when others are unkind,
Whenever someone shares with another in need,
Whenever we refuse to hate,
Every time someone is patient – and waits in love,
Every time someone returns good for evil,
Always when someone serves another, in love,
Always when God’s peace is the calm in the storm,
May God reign in our lives.
May we live as God’s people.  Amen.

Thank you for being attentive to God’s love in your heart.
Thank you for serving and sharing and showing people God’s goodness and glory.
May we all see God’s peace.

Pastoral Prayer: God of the Living

God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, we confess to you that we are frequently slow to believe what you have promised through your prophets and in your Son Jesus.  We succumb to fears of death as if it were the end of everything – and all too often we live as if there is nothing to live for beyond death.  Forgive us Lord: forgive us our doubts, our disbelief, and our deafness to the witness of other believers, and our silence when we could give witness to the faith which we have…
Lord, hear our prayer.

Lord of mercy, God of the living, grant that we might see beyond the ruins that lie about us; that we might take to heart the lessons of Scripture which testify to your willingness and ability to bring new life to dry bones.  Give to those who despair a vision of the resurrection which awaits all those who believe, all those you have chosen.  Help them to order their lives by the principles of your everlasting kingdom—that kingdom in which faith, hope and love transfigure all that they touch…
Lord, hear our prayer…

Father, help us be a people who are prepared for the journey which lies ahead. Take from us all evil desire; remove from us any refusal we have to forgive others; lift from us any reluctance we have to love our enemies and to bless, in your name, those who curse us.  Send unto us the desire to love one another as Jesus loves us, the yearning to bring your saving word to those who hunger, the longing  to reach out and touch another person with your love and to speak to others—and to ourselves—your truth.  Help us to be ones who are prepared; help us to be ones who live Christ-like lives…
Lord, hear our prayer.

We ask all these things not in our name, but in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Assurance

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of His Spirit, washed in his blood.

Chorus:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Chorus:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
