Younger Children’s Activity Pages

Older Children’s Activity Pages

Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

  •  “Wind and Word” – Pastor Daniel will be leading a Summer Bible Study in the Pavilion on Tuesday evenings at 7PM starting on June 8. The study will look at the movement of the Holy Spirit in the Church in the book of Acts. Each evening will be a standalone study, and you are invited to come even if you cannot commit to being present every week.
  • We anticipate continuing to worship outdoors through the summer, as the weather allows. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, for now, to allow the air to be a little warmer. We will likely move the service earlier as we get into the heat of summer.
    • Social distancing and mask use will need to follow state regulations. Currently, masks are required outdoors, when you cannot keep a 6-foot separation between yourself and others. However, this allows for a great deal more relaxation than we have been able to experience indoors. We also will be able to resume congregational singing. We are taking steps to be able to live stream worship from the pavilion and expect that to be ready by Easter Sunday. We also will have the radio broadcaster set up for people to be able to listen in their cars again.
    • Finally, if the weather is not cooperating, we will be able to move back inside again, on short notice if necessary, but continuing to observe state and CDC regulations. More details can be found at https://pleasantvalleyalive.org/wp/outdoor-worship-plan-starting-easter-2021/
  • We are holding Youth and Children’s Sunday School classes on Sundays, at 10 AM.Classes will meet in their normal classrooms, but teachers can decide to move outside if they want to take advantage of beautiful weather.
Logistical plans will be reviewed when the worship schedule shifts for the warmth of summer.
    • Social distancing and mask use will follow state Covid regulations, which include face coverings for all people 5 years and older. Masks are required indoors. Currently, they are also required outdoors, when you cannot keep a 6 foot separation between yourself and others.
  • Adult Sunday School classes are setting their own plans of time and location for resuming meeting.
  • The youth will be cooking and selling Chicken BBQ on May 15, 2021.
    • Look forward to some finger lickin’ good food! This is the first youth fundraiser we have had in over a year, and we could use your help! We will need help with cooking and wrapping the chicken at the Mt. Sidney Ruritan pit. We would love for some adults from the congregation to help out alongside our youth. We also need to borrow some coolers to transport chicken after it is cooked. If you can help out in any way, please contact Pastor Rebecca.
  • The 2021 Church Directories have been published and are available for you to pick up.
  • The Shenandoah District Disaster Auction Coordinating Committee has decided to hold in-person auctions at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds (4808 S ValleyPike,Harrisonburg) on May 21-22 in the Barn Complex. The recent change in outdoor gathering restrictions has now made it possible for the Friday evening livestock and Saturday morning auctions to take place, although with social distancing and mask-wearing required.
    • Unfortunately, the oyster and ham dinner and the Saturday morning breakfast and lunch offerings will not be available. However, the committee is evaluating ideas for making meals available outdoors using a drive-by method for pick up.
  • Softball is coming! We are anticipating the season starting May 10 and practices are scheduled for 6 pm on April 18, 25, May 2, and May 9. Anyone that is interested can just show up to a practice or contact Kyle Meyers.
  • The Disaster Kit committee is preparing to receive groups of volunteers to assemble buckets and kits for Church World Service. Congregations or groups are challenged to provide 10 to 20 volunteers to come at a pre-arranged time to fill buckets or kits with supplies. The assembly will take place in the Disaster Ministries building in Weyers Cave, where the roll-up doors will be open and proper spacing can be achieved. CDC guidelines will be followed, with temperature checks and mask-wearing. Each packing session should last about two hours.
    • The District hosts the region’s Church World Service depot, and a tractor-trailer is expected to arrive in late May to pick up buckets, kits and other supplies. The committee has set a goal to have at least half of the buckets filled before the truck comes to load items. People interested in volunteering may contact Sarah Long at the District office to connect with an upcoming opportunity for assembling buckets and kits.
  • Brethren Woods is looking for strong, solid Christians to serve in June and July during our summer camp program as Paid Summer Staff. Open positions include Nature Director, Maintenance Assistant, and male and female Counselors. Check out the Summer Staff webpage at http://www.brethrenwoods. to review job descriptions, get more information about serving at camp, and apply online! Male Counselors are especially needed and have been particularly difficult to secure for this 2021 summer season.

In addition to paid staff, Brethren Woods depends on Volunteer Staff to serve as deans (Bible study and worship leaders), Health Managers, Kitchen and Maintenance Assistants, and day, half-week, or full-week Counselors for K-12th grade campers. Campers of parents (or grandparents) who volunteer for a full week of camp are eligible for a 50% discount on their camper costs. This discount is limited to two children per parent (or grandparent) per week. Get more information at http://www.brethrenwoods. to review job descriptions and apply online.

Please remember in your prayers the many in and around our congregation who have been fighting illness.

If you are inclined to bird watching, I want to encourage you to make your way over to our pavilion sometime during the week, when we don’t have a hundred people here. The thicket that has grown up here is full of birdsong on beautiful days. The trees that you may see blooming there are part of the reason why. Those blooming right now are black cherry trees, and while I can tell you from experience that they are inedibly bitter for us, the birds love them. They, along with the many other fruits growing in that thicket supply ample food, and the flowers we see now are a promise of the nourishment to come.

So, I am not about to say that the overgrown thicket beside us is like the garden of Eden, I hope that it is a reminder of it. The fruitfulness of the world is a testament to God’s character and plan. God wants us to be nourished and blessed. In the Gardner of Eden, God prepared a place where Adam and Eve had all they needed and desired. God is the mother of us all: from those birds in the field, to those who are sheltering indoors. The birds and flowers are a reminder that God cares and provides for us, and desires to bring us back to the fullness of his blessing again.

So as we celebrate motherhood today, lets remember that mothers are representatives of God’s blessing as well. They give us life, and through them, we catch a glimpse of the love of God.

Days of Elijah

Verse 1

These are the days of Elijah
Declaring the Word of the Lord
And these are the days
Of Your servant Moses
Righteousness being restored
And though these are days
Of great trials
Of famine and darkness and sword
Still we are the voice
In the desert crying
Prepare ye the way of the Lord

Chorus

Behold He comes
Riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun
At the trumpet call
So lift your voice
It’s the year of Jubilee
And out of Zion’s hill
Salvation comes

Verse 2

And these are the days of Ezekiel
The dry bones becoming as flesh
And these are the days
Of Your servant David
Rebuilding a temple of praise
And these are the days of the harvest
The fields are as white in the world
And we are the labourers
In Your vineyard
Declaring the Word of the Lord

Chorus

Behold He comes
Riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun
At the trumpet call
So lift your voice
It’s the year of Jubilee
And out of Zion’s hill
Salvation comes

Bridge

There is no god like Jehovah
There is no god like Jehovah
There is no god like Jehovah
There is no god like Jehovah

Chorus

Behold He comes
Riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun
At the trumpet call
So lift your voice
It’s the year of Jubilee
And out of Zion’s hill
Salvation comes

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, come now to worship, for we know our God is good!

God makes the sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous

If you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even guerrillas and, terrorists do the same?

But the steadfast love of God endures forever. It bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

We gather in the love of God this morning, praying for grace beyond forgiveness, seeking God’s salvation.

Let us pray: As we were originally created in your image, O God, transform us once again. Renew your spirit within us, so that even when we walk among the darkest of darkness, we will know your light still. Guide us in Christ’s way, so that together with all people, we may one day know your joy and your peace. Amen.

Matthew 18:15-22NRSV

‘If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax-collector. Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.’

Then Peter came and said to him, ‘Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.

God of Love and Justice,
We long for peace within and peace without.
We long for harmony in our families
for serenity in the midst of struggle
and for commitment to each others growth.

We long for the day when our homes
will be a dwelling place for your love.
Yet we confess that we are often anxious;
we do not trust each other,
and we harbor violence.
We are not willing to take the risks
and make the sacrifices that love requires.

Look upon us with kindness and grace.
Rule in our homes and in all the world;
show us how to walk in your paths,
through the mercy of our savior. Amen.

And know that You are holy
And know that You are holy

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

All the hearts who are content
And all who feel unworthy
And all who hurt with nothin’ left
Will know that You are holy

And we will cry out hallelujah

Shout it
Go on and scream it from the mountains
Go on and tell it to the masses
That He is God

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

The Spirit of God calls to each of us, to share God’s love and blessing. It does so, even though we are already debtors. Everything we have we owe to God, and yet God still seeks to bless us with more, with better.
May the Spirit of God’s generosity take root in our hearts. May we also be ready to forgive debts, share grace, and bear good news. May we remember and believe that we are messengers of the love of Jesus Christ.

Gracious God,
In love You created us,
and in love You sustain us, day after day.
So it is with confidence that we bring our prayers to You,
knowing that You hear us, and will respond.

We offer our prayers for the world around us.
We pray for those who find themselves in bondage:
those forced into slavery or captivity,
those oppressed by injustice and greed,
those enslaved by personal addictions.

Deliver us all to your new day.

We pray for those who struggle to raise their children
in the midst of violence or poverty;
those who can only stand by and watch as their sons or daughters die
from violence and illness.
Build a new compassion within us, that protects all your children.

We pray for all who suffer this day,
whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
May Your presence surround and sustain each one,
so that they may know your love and live.

Finally, God, we pray for ourselves—members of Your Body here on earth.
Break down the barriers that divide us from one another.
Unite us in our common allegiance to You as Lord and Saviour.
Grant us compassion and humility in our relationships.
Release the gifts You have given to each one,
so that in us and through us,
Your kingdom might come and Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Gracious God, hear our prayer,
and in Your love, answer. Amen.

God of Grace and God of Glory

Verse 1
God of grace and God of Glory
On thy people, pour thy power
Crown thine ancient church’s story,
bring her bud to glorious flower.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
for the facing of this hour,
for the facing of this hour.

Verse 2
Cure thy children’s warring madness;
bend our pride to thy control.
Shame our wanton, selfish gladness,
rich in things and poor in soul.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal,
lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.

Verse 3
Save us from weak resignation
to the evils we deplore.
Let us search for your salvation
be our glory evermore.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
serving thee whom we adore,
serving thee whom we adore.

God of Grace and God of Glory

by Jeremiah Padilla, and David Tate | Streamed with permission. CSPL121366

Go now in love, together in Christ’s peace.
May God push aside every clouding darkness
and arm you with the light of Christ’ grace.
May you serve God’s compassion and righteousness.
With Jesus present among you always,
may the Holy Spirit guide you in your life together.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord,
In Christ’s Name. Amen.
