Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

  • We will begin worshiping outdoors again on Easter Sunday, weather permitting. We anticipate continuing to worship outdoors through the summer, as weather allows. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, for now, to allow the air to be a little warmer. We will likely move the service earlier as we get into the heat of summer.
  •  Social distancing and mask use will need to follow state regulations. Currently, masks are required outdoors, when you cannot keep a 6 foot separation between yourself and others. However, this allows for a great deal more relaxation than we have been able to experience indoors. We also will be able to resume congregational singing. We are taking steps to be able to live stream worship from the pavilion and expect that to be ready by Easter Sunday. We also will have the radio broadcaster set up for people to be able to listen in their cars again.
  •  Finally, if the weather is not cooperating, we will be able to move back inside again, on short notice if necessary, but continuing to observe state and CDC regulations.
  •  We will be celebrating a Community Easter Sunrise Service this year! The service will take place at the Community Center, in the parking lot by the playground. Masks are encouraged and social distancing is required, but we hope you will join us as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection as a Weyers Cave community once more!
  • The BackPack Pals program is in need of Pudding Cups and Ramen noodles. If you would like to make a donation, please leave items in the BackPack Pals bin located in the narthex.
    Despite the current pandemic, Karis is open and very busy. As a result, they are in great need of good used furniture and household items. Now is a good time to bring these items to Karis to consign.
    • To make an appointment to bring in items, contact Karis during store hours at (540) 248-4511. The store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Consignment hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointment. Karis also provides pick-up services for a minimal fee.
  • The Jimmy Fortune Concert postponed at the end of last year has been officially canceled. It will not be rescheduled to later this spring due to the limitations of current gathering restrictions. We are hoping to be able to host a concert again in December
  •  Focus Teams are making preparations for resuming Sunday School classes on April 18. A report on readiness will be brought to the Church Board on April 11.
  •  The Church of the Brethren Annual Conference for this year will take place online. The Church Board has selected Pastors Daniel and Rebecca to serve as delegates.
  •  The 2021 Church Directories have been published and are available for you to pick up in the Narthex.

Please remember in your prayers the many in and around our congregation who have been fighting illness.

Come Thou Fount

by Jeremiah Padilla, Sarah Padilla, David Tate | Streamed with permission. CSPL121366

Luke 19:28-40 NRSV

After he had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, saying, ‘Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, “Why are you untying it?” just say this: “The Lord needs it.” ’ So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’ They said, ‘The Lord needs it.’ Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying,

‘Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven,
and glory in the highest heaven!’

Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher, order your disciples to stop.’ He answered, ‘I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.’

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever!

The Lord is my strength and my might;
 my light and my salvation.

This is the gate of the Lord;
the righteous shall enter through it.

God answers our prayers
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the chief cornerstone.

This is the Lord’s doing;
it is marvellous in our eyes.
This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
We lift our palms in praise
O give thanks to the Lord!
His steadfast love endures for ever!

Who has believed what we have heard?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
For he grew up before him like a young plant,
and like a root out of dry ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
He was despised and rejected.

Surely he has borne our infirmities
and carried our diseases;
He was wounded for our transgressions,
crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the punishment that made us whole,
and by his bruises we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have all turned to our own way,
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

The righteous one, our Lord, will make many righteous,
   and he shall bear their iniquities.
he poured out himself to death,
he bore the sin of many,
 and made intercession for our sin.

Almighty God,
You have set before us the path
but we have wandered on our own
to try to find our way.

Sometimes we are like toddlers
and we hear Your call and come back.

And still other times we are full of youthful rebellion,
demanding to be cut loose and set free,
not knowing how much we still need
to seek Your wisdom and guidance.

But most of all, too often we think we are adults
and have figured it all our and know our own way,
only to stumble and stray so far.

Remind us, parental God,
that we are always Your children,
that we are never fully grown up in Your sight,
that we always have much to learn.

Help us to seek You every day,
to acknowledge that we need Your wisdom and guidance,
and help us to return to the path and walk with You.
In the name of Christ,
who came for us, we pray. Amen.

Luke 19:41-44 NRSV

As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, ‘If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. Indeed, the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up ramparts around you and surround you, and hem you in on every side. They will crush you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave within you one stone upon another; because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.’

Hosanna

Verse 1
Praise is rising
Eyes are turning to You
We turn to You
Hope is stirring
Hearts are yearning for You
We long for You

‘Cause when we see You
We find strength to face the day
In Your presence
All our fears are washed away

Chorus
Hosanna hosanna
You are the God who saves us
Worthy of all our praises
Hosanna hosanna
Come have Your way among us
We welcome You here Lord Jesus

Verse 2
Hear the sound of
Hearts returning to You
We turn to You
In Your Kingdom
Broken lives are made new
You make us new
Hosanna hosanna

Hosanna (Praise is Rising)

by Pleasant Valley COB Praise Team | Streamed with permission. CSPL121366

Have mercy on us, O God, according to your loving kindness;
in your great compassion, hear our prayers.

We pray for the whole church, all leaders and ministers,
and all the holy people of God.

Wash us through and through,
And cleanse us from our sin.

We pray for our nation, for all the nations of the earth,
and for all who govern and judge.
Purge us from our sin,
And we shall be pure.

We pray for those who hunger, those who thirst,
those who cry out for justice,
those who live under the threat of terror,
and those without a place to lay their head.
Make them hear of joy and gladness,
that those who are broken may rejoice.

We pray for those who are ill, those in pain,
those under stress, and those who are lonely.
Give them the joy of your saving help,
and sustain them with your bountiful Spirit.

In this season of Lent we pray for those who prepare for baptism,
and we pray that we all might be given the grace and strength
to repent and grow closer to you, O God.
Create in us clean hearts, O God,
and renew a right spirit within us.

We pray for those who have died,
and who have entered into the land of eternal Light
and your abiding peace.
Cast them not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from them.

Lord Jesus,
you taught your disciples that unless a grain of wheat
falls into the earth and dies it remains just a single grain,
but if it dies it bears much fruit;
as we prepare our hearts to remember your death and resurrection,
grant us the strength and wisdom to serve and follow you,
this day and always. Amen.

As the Deer

Verse 1
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee

Chorus 1
You alone are my strength my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee

Verse 2
You’re my friend and You are my brother
Even though You are a King
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything

Verse 3
I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joygiver
And the apple of my eye

‘Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed are those who follow him
Who accept his leading,
the sacrifices of his love.
May they know God’s peace
and may they sing
to God’s glory in earth and in heaven.
Amen.
