Older Children’s
Bulletin

Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

Notes and Reminder

The Church Board will not be meeting this month, due to current Covid-19 restrictions. Any items that need to be addressed can be given to our new Board Chair, Jon Garber, to be handled via email.

We will hold our February Congregational Business Meeting as a part of our worship service on February 14.  This will be a brief meeting, with a minimum of business presented.  More details will come in the next few weeks.

Vickie Parkinson will be participating in a Brethren Disaster Ministries trip to North Carolina the week of February 14. Please pray for a safe and productive week

The Church Office is beginning preparations for publication of the 2021 Church Directory. If you have updates for the directory, please submit them to the church office as soon as possible. Updates can be emailed to office@pleasantvalleyalive.org, or you can call the office during office hours (Tuesday through Friday, 8:30AM -12:30 PM).

Please remember in your prayers the many in and around our congregation who have been fighting illness.

Brothers and Sisters, God is calling to us.

Christ invites us to receive a new blessing.

Come, to be baptized in the promise of repentance.
Come to be healed, renewed.
Come to receive the love of God

We have seen and known darkness, but Jesus is revealing God’s light.

Set down your burdens, let go of the old ways.
Take rest at the feet of the one who teaches divine love.
Come to know justice. Come and Learn peace.

We come to walk in the footsteps of God; to step in the print of God’s heel, hands held in Christ’s hands.

Come, children of God. Receive Christ’s calling. Receive Christ’s peace. For the Spirit of God is in you today.

Holy and loving God,
we turn to you today
knowing that we need a savior.
We know worry, anger, and fear.
We know injustice and scorn for mercy.
Scars are deep in the world all around us.
You are the healer we need.
So receive us now.
Rescue our wayward hearts.
With heart, soul, and mind,
May we find our place and peace with you.
With all your children, we pray, Amen.

Exodus 2: 11-22 NRSV

One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and saw their forced labour. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his kinsfolk. He looked this way and that, and seeing no one he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. When he went out the next day, he saw two Hebrews fighting; and he said to the one who was in the wrong, ‘Why do you strike your fellow Hebrew?’ He answered, ‘Who made you a ruler and judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?’ Then Moses was afraid and thought, ‘Surely the thing is known.’ When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses.

But Moses fled from Pharaoh. He settled in the land of Midian, and sat down by a well. The priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came to draw water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock. But some shepherds came and drove them away. Moses got up and came to their defence and watered their flock. When they returned to their father Reuel, he said, ‘How is it that you have come back so soon today?’ They said, ‘An Egyptian helped us against the shepherds; he even drew water for us and watered the flock.’ He said to his daughters, ‘Where is he? Why did you leave the man? Invite him to break bread.’ Moses agreed to stay with the man, and he gave Moses his daughter Zipporah in marriage. She bore a son, and he named him Gershom; for he said, ‘I have been an alien residing in a foreign land.’

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit
O what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer

In Prayer for Together

We are sinners! To claim otherwise is to lose the opportunity for healing.
We give fear too much voice in our lives
And neglect the hope that we are given in Jesus.
But Jesus comes to us still
to anoint us with grace
to inject us with love
to free us from this living death
to welcome us into the freedom that is life
lived in God’s way.

Holy God,
Break into our lives!
Jesus said that he would come like a thief in the night.
And we pray that you would come among us unawares.
Before we can raise our guard,
Catch us with conviction of our own sinfulness.
Blind us with the truth of our tendency
To take vengeance in our own hands.
Shine your light,
Revealing your grace mercy and love,
So bright that we can suddenly see nothing else.
Break upon us, O God,
A wave of salvation
Come to wash us clean.

God is our liberator. Without the grace of God, who could stand?
But because of God’s grace, we are given opportunity, to share boundless blessing.
May we live each day, witnessing to the love of God, giving each person a reminder of the grace shed for all..

God of all real hope and salvation
You are the one who sees the hearts of your children,
Who knows when they are struggling
and who is willing to carry the burden with them.

You came in Jesus,
knowing that we deceive ourselves about which way to go.
You came to walk our path yourself
to heal our eyes and steady our steps.
You forgave, and corrected, and opened the door to new life.

So we pray to you today,
Our God who has come for our sake,
To awaken us to your presence among us.
Remind us when we do not know where to go,

That you are directing us towards compassion and justice,
That we will know your joy when we share,
That we will know your peace when we encourage,
That we will discover your righteousness in the sacrifices of self-giving love.

Help us to let go of our insecurities.
Deliver us from fears that herd us on the path of conformity.
Give us courage to live in Jesus example.

We pray today, for our brothers and sisters who are in mourning.
We ask your Spirit to encourage those of us who are wrestling with change.
We ask your blessing on the healing taking place in the lives around us.

May your light be made visible as we seek to follow you.
May the joy of renewed life be something we share every day.
May your kingdom come, for all of your children.

In Jesus we pray, Amen.

Thou True Vine That Heals the Nations

Thou true Vine, that heals the nations, Tree of life, thy branches we.
They who leave thee fade and wither, none bear fruit except in thee.
Cleanse us, make us sane and simple till we merge our lives in thine,
gain ourselves in thee, the Vintage, give ourselves through thee, the Vine.

Nothing can we do without thee on thy life depends each one.
If we keep thy words and love thee, all we ask for shall be done.
May we, loving one another radiant in thy light abide;
so through us, made fruitful by thee, shall our God be glorified.

God is with us.
Not beside us,
Not behind us,
Ever before us,
Always among us,
Holding us in love.
Go, and know,
You go with God.
Amen.
