Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

Notes and Reminder

The BackPack Pals program is in need of Pudding Cups and Ramen noodles. If you would like to make a donation, please leave items in the BackPack Pals bin located in the narthex.

Pastor Daniel and Pastor Rebecca will be on vacation February 15th-21st. We are excited to welcoming Grant Gonino to join us this Sunday, February 21st!

The 2021 Church directory is being finalized. If you have updates for the directory, please submit them to the church office by February 15. Updates can be emailed to office@pleasantvalleyalive.

Please remember in your prayers the many in and around our congregation who have been fighting illness.

Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus

Psalm 86:1-7

Hear me, Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.

Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
    save your servant who trusts in you.

You are my God;
have mercy on me, Lord,
for I call to you all day long.

Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
for I put my trust in you.
You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love to all who call to you.

Hear my prayer, Lord;
listen to my cry for mercy.

When I am in distress, I call to you,

    because you answer me.

The King Will Come When Morning Dawns

Verse 1

The King shall come when morning dawns,
And light triumphant breaks;
When beauty gilds the eastern hills,
And life to joy awakes.

Verse 2

Not as of old, a little child
To bear, and fight, and die,
But crowned with glory like the sun,
That lights that morning sky

Verse 3

Then let the endless joy begin,
By prophets long foretold,
When right will triumph over wrong,
and truth will be extolled.

Verse 4

The King shall come when morning dawns,
And light and beauty brings;—
Hail! Christ the Lord; Thy people pray
Come quickly, King of kings.

Invocation

King of Kings, we love to sing praises to you. We rejoice in you, our maker. We exalt you, our King. We praise your name, for you delight in your people. We do not deserve to come into the presence of the Holy God of the Universe but you have crowned the humble with victory, you have lifted up those who are bowed down, you have clothed us in your righteousness. We come before you with confidence, not based on ourselves, but based on your love. Let your praises be in our hearts and on our lips. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

James 5:14-16 NRSV

Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up, and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.

There is a Balm in Gilead

Chorus

There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul

Verse

Sometimes I feel discouraged
and think my work’s in vain
But then the Holy Spirit
revives my soul again

Chorus

There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul

Psalm 86: 8-13

There is none like you among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like yours.
All the nations you have made shall come
and bow down before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.
For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God.
Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart to revere your name.
I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name for ever.
For great is your steadfast love towards me;
you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

Prayer for Others

Compassionate God,
we pray for vulnerable people all over this world,
people without power
who live in places of terror and violence, fear and oppression.

Protect them, God;
we feel so powerless ourselves to help them.
Encourage and empower us to work
for peace and freedom from fear in our own contexts.

God of grace,
we pray for those whose lives have been turned upside down
by various disasters: floods, fire and drought-driven famine.
Bring courage and hope to them;
through their pain, may they remain connected to you in prayer.

We pray for those say there is no God;
may we through the living of our own lives
demonstrate the joy and peace of a Spirit-centred existence.

God of community,
we pray for our own congregation;
may we be a source of hope for our neighbourhood.

Help us to discern needs and work to fulfill them.
Strengthen and unify our congregation
and show us how we can be the disciples you envision us to be.
Return the sick to health and well-being
and relieve the suffering of those who have lost loved ones,
are unable to find meaningful employment
and fear the challenges of old age.

Guide us, Great Shepherd,
into your paths of right relationships.
In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen.

Gentle Shepherd Come and Lead Us

Gentle Shepherd come and lead us
For we need You to help us find our way
Gentle Shepherd come and feed us
For we need Your strength from day to day
There’s no other we can turn to
Who can help us face another day
Gentle Shepherd come and lead us
For we need You to help us find our way

Gentle Shepherd Come and Lead Us

May God, who has begun a good work in you,
continue to be at work in your life.

May your love and compassion continue to grow—
so that you will be able to recognize what really matters,
and live a pure and blameless life.

May the Holy Spirit guide you to the best fruit:
That your life will be full of God’s blessing
bringing glory and praise to our Lord.

Amen.
