Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

    • We are looking forward to the Houff Dinner on September 9! We are in need of volunteers for the event. For information on how you can help, please contact Pastor Rebecca House.
    • Transition Team Update:

The Transition Team met again last week and as usual there was lively discussion and lots of
brainstorming about what the future could hold for Pleasant Valley Church. John Jantzi joined us
for this meeting and shared the Congregational Profile that Pleasant Valley used in the last
pastoral search. At this time more than 40 surveys have been completed and submitted. The
team encourages those who have not filled out the survey to do so by the end of the month. Your
input is very important to the process. Here are some additional updates/highlights from the
      team:
      Accomplishments in the process:
 Pulpit coverage and worship leaders are being finalized for the next several months
 Actively engaged in searching for an interim
 Preparation and distribution of a survey to the congregation for input into the process
 Creation of a questionnaire to gain information from inactive members
      Upcoming activities:
 Meet with Deacons on September 11 th to get their assistance in contacting people who
have become inactive attenders so they can have input into the future of Pleasant Valley
 Compile and share survey results with the congregation and continue discussion of future
directions for the church with entire congregation
 Develop a Congregational Profile based on input from surveys, questionnaires, and
      discussions
The Transition Team’s next meeting will be September 20 th . If you have any questions, commits,
or additional input, please feel free to contact any of the following team members: Millard
Driver, James Hall, Randy Harris, Teri Sumey, and Carol Wilson. Thanks for your continued
      support and prayers.

    • The Fellowship Team invites you to gather at the picnic pavilion (weather permitting- in case of rain we will be in the fellowship hall) for a pot luck luncheon following the Worship in the Grove service on Sunday, September 11th.  We will provide table service & drinks.  Please join us even if you are not able to bring a dish- all are welcome at God’s table!
    • Sign Up to Be in a LIFE Group!

The best way to get connected at Pleasant Valley is by joining one of our Life Groups. Life Groups consist of 6-12 adults who meet weekly or bi-weekly (or as the group determines) throughout the year. Life Groups help us grow in our relationships with each other and in our faith. These groups knit the church together as group members build friendships, pray, and study the Bible together.

The following acrostic further defines the purpose of Life Groups:

      Lean on Jesus as we
      Ignite faithful discipleship,
      Fellowship in love, and
      Encourage Christian growth.

Groups will begin meeting again in September, and sign-ups will be available at church and online during the month of August. There will be Life Groups for everyone, and we encourage and challenge you to help us form new groups based on interests and preferences.
Sign up now in the Narthex! If you have any questions, please contact one of our Life Group Committee: Sara Houff, Karissa Ruiz, Carol Wilson, and Pastor Rebecca House

    • Backpack Pals are in  need of pudding cups, ramen noodles, and we ask that you continue to donate your plastic grocery bags. Thank you!

    Invocation

Holy God, we come to worship you this morning, bringing our whole selves to you. Help us to place all our trust and all our attention on you. Draw us closer to you so that we may better know your will and your ways and live out your love and your grace in our every day lives. We gather and pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

    Call to Worship

    Matthew 13:31-32 NRSV

31 He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; 32 it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

    Hebrews 11:1 NRSV

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

We have been called to live in the abundance of God’s love
and to choose to share out of that same abundance.
God offers amazing grace that is made evident in our lives.
We gratefully respond by offering our lives and our living to share this grace and draw others toward God.

    In Prayer Together

Gracious God, we turn once again toward you. We come to you in faith, continuing our search for you in our lives, and finding again and again that you are with us always. In the midst of our troubles we need but look and there you are supporting us. We ask for your presence in the situations that weigh on our hearts and minds.

Thank you for your never-ending presence in our lives. In adoration, we praise you for your goodness, faithfulness and mercy. You have sprinkled your blessings throughout our lives and we are grateful.

Draw near to us and may your Spirit move through us. Help us to share with others the goodness that we have found in You and may our lives be an expression of choosing that goodness. It is in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
