Older Children’s
Bulletin

Good morning!  This page is intended to both serve as a continuing worship option for those participating in our worship service from home, and to serve in place of print resources during our in-person worship.  Following the worship service on Sunday, one or more video recordings from the service will be placed on this page, including the sermon.  This may take several hours, due to the time needed to process the videos.  We will email the congregation when the recordings have been posted.  If you would like to be added to our congregational email list, please contact pvcob.alive@gmail.com.

  • Please note these highlights from the July Church Board Meeting:
    1. We will continue worshiping outdoors through Worship in the Grove, on September 13.
    2. We will not be accepting reservations for use of the church building or pavilion during this time, due to sanitation concerns.
  • The Church Board will be have a called meeting on August 30 at 6:30PM in the pavilion.  We will be working on plans for resuming worship inside the church building.
  • In March we began collecting materials for assembling CWS School Kits for children in times and places of severe need. We paused that collection in March because of uncertainty how to handle the risk of possible spread of contagion.  We have now completed our goal of assembling 100 School Kits. Thank you for your donations!  If you still have items you have gathed for the kits, please feel free to bring them in, and they will be used for our next School Kit assembly.
  • We will be spreading mulch at the church on Saturday, August 22.  All help is appreciated!  Please contact Paul Wilson with any questions.  We will begin at 8:30 AM.
  • Please pray for our Brethren Disaster Ministries team serving in Dayton, Ohio this week.
  • Cave View Farm has Sunflowers available for picking on Westview School Rd.  Please pick some to share with someone else!

Children's Song Medley

Celebrating our Blessings

The Gospel of Mark tells about how Jesus conducted himself on the sabbath. He went against the expectations of the Pharisees, bringing healing and making certain that the hungry were fed. Jesus worked miracles on the sabbath, declaring that the day of rest was not created to be a stricture, but a blessing.
We gather to celebrate God’s rest day this morning, to share the joy of blessing, to give thanks for blessings of healing, of strengthening, of new life and love. We celebrate the God who creates goodness and wants to share it with us.

What are the blessings that you have experienced this week?  Take a moment to remember them.

Let’s celebrate God’s blessing in song!

Mark 2:23- 3:6

One sabbath he was going through the cornfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, ‘Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?’ And he said to them, ‘Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions.’ Then he said to them, ‘The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.’

Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there who had a withered hand. They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him. And he said to the man who had the withered hand, ‘Come forward.’ Then he said to them, ‘Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to kill?’ But they were silent. He looked around at them with anger; he was grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.

All Creatures of our God and King

All creatures of our God and King, lift up your
voice and let us sing
Alleluia, alleluia!
The burning sun with golden beam,
the silver moon with softer gleam,
O sing all! O sing all! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

O rushing wind that is so strong, the clouds
in heaven that sail along,
Alleluia, alleluia!
The rising morn in praise rejoice,
O lights of evening find a voice,
O sing all! O sing all! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

O flowing water, pure and clear, make music
for your Lord to hear,
alleluia, alleluia!!
The fire so masterful and bright,
that gives all both warmth and light,
O sing all! O sing all! alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Let all things their creator bless, and worship
God in humbleness,
Alleluia, alleluia!
Praise, praise our God, praise the Son,
and praise the Spirit, Three-in-One,
O sing all! O sing all! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Holy God,
Beginning and End,
Fountain of Life,
Living water for our souls.
We are quick to forget how we depend upon you.
We claim independence, and even in faith live in faltering ways.
And yet you accept and love us anyway,
through your Spirit, expanding our gaze and our understanding.

Be with us and bless us in this time of worship.
Open our eyes to see what we can’t see on our own.
Open our ears to hear your response to us.
Open our hearts to draw closer to you.
In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Zechariah 4:6-9a

He said to me, ‘This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts. What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain; and he shall bring out the top stone amid shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” ’

Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;

We Believe

In this time of desperation,
When all we know is doubt and fear,
There is only one foundation.
We believe. We believe.
In this broken generation,
When all is dark You help us see,
There is only one salvation,
We believe. We believe.

Chorus
We believe in God the Father!
We believe in Jesus Christ!
We believe in the Holy Spirit!
And He’s given us new life!
We believe in the crucifixion!
We believe that He conquered death!
We believe in the resurrection!
And He’s coming back again!
(We believe

So let our faith be more than anthems,
Greater than the songs we sing.
In our weakness and temptations,
We believe. We believe!

Chorus

Let the lost be found and the dead be raised.
In the here and now let love invade.
Let the church live loud. Our God will save.
We believe. We believe.
And the gates of hell will not prevail,
For the pow’r of God has torn the veil.
Now we know Your love will never fail,
We believe. We believe!

Chorus

He’s coming back again.
He’s coming back again.
We believe. We believe.

We Believe

by PVCOB Praise Team | Streamed with permission. CSPL121366

We witness to God’s goodness in the ways in which we continue to serve. We share God’s love with the least, the lost, even our enemies. We trust in the power of God to bring transformation into the world and into human hearts.

May God bless and work through every way in which we share and serve.

Based on Psalm 63:1-8

O God, you are our God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

We seek security in our work; we seek happiness in our play.
We seek fulfillment. We fill our days… and still find emptiness.
But we look you and find a fountain of life, refreshing our soul!

So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.

You have reminded us of your love and mercy, O God.
You have reached beyond compassion, inviting us into the realms of hope and joy.
You create beauty for us, and welcome us to live in it with you.

So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on your name.
My soul is satisfied as with a rich feast, and my mouth praises you with joyful lips.

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.

God Almighty,
We know your movement among us:
whenever the poor are blessed,
whenever the unlovable are embraced,
whenever the broken are healed.

We know the power of your providence
as rain quenches the parched earth,
as grain is multiplied in the fields
and as we receive the blessings of new birth.

You show your love to us through the sacrifices of the cross,
and the welcome of every day.

So multiply that love among us now.
Make your love to shine among us.
Cultivate compassion that bears each others burdens.
Sow sharing wherever there is need.
Bring healing to those who are ill,
and comfort to those who are mourning.

Remind us that your wisdom, strength, and mercy
are sufficient for all these things.

Help us to love and rely upon you.
In Jesus we pray.  Amen.

Everlasting God

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord.
We will wait upon the Lord.
We will wait upon the Lord.
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord.
We will wait upon the Lord.
We will wait upon the Lord.

Pre-Chorus
Our God, You reign forever.
Our Hope our strong Deliv’rer!

Chorus
You are the everlasting God!
The everlasting God.
You do not faint.
You won’t grow weary.
You’re the defender of the weak.
You comfort those in need.
You lift us up on wings like eagles!

Life in this world will always resemble shifting sand.
The mountains tremble and the seas roar.
But the word of God stands forever.
God’s faithfulness is for all generations.
Christ’s love is our solid rock.
Let us place our trust in Jesus.
Go in peace, Amen.
